Breast Cancer and Qigong

One month ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and two weeks ago I had a mastectomy. This is my second time with hormone responsive cancer but this episode is considered a new occurrence not a re-occurrence of the previous cancer. I have been teaching qigong and meditation for 25 years, and also provide medical qigong for clients, but let me tell you treating yourself is a whole different animal.

Due to limitations on the shoulder range of motion and use, the physical practice involving my arm is still limited, so my focus has been on heart coherence training, healing sounds and vibrations, and breathing exercises. In addition I find that visualization of my qigong routines has a profound benefit, even though I am not able to do the full movement myself.

I am so fortunate that I don't have any progression of the cancer in the lymph nodes or anywhere throughout the body per PET scan and biopsies. The focus of my self care is on restoring my energy, clearing the isotopes and anesthesia used in surgery, and a healthy and healing diet. As I progress I hope to be able to document my practice, so maybe I can help someone else struggling with cancer. With love- Martha
